This document was prepared in accordance with the Global Reporting Initiative Sustainability Reporting Standards (GRI Standards) having as a central guideline the identification of the material topics of the company in relation to its environment.

Landes engaged with the SDG

We embrace voluntarily the SDG (Sustainability Development Goals) adopted by all United Nation Members, with the conviction of being a company that contributes to the development of our country. We subscribe 3 goals:

SDG 11: Sustainable cities and communities.
SDG 12: Responsible consumption and production.
SDG 14: Life below water.

WE ARE LANDES

History of the company

Since the russian Citizen, Sulim Landes started the business in the 60s, we have sailed stormy waters, facing several events that have made us who we are today.

Landes and Sustainability

We are concerned about the responsible use of the natural resources, promoting the efficiency in energy and in particularly reducing water consumption. We promote recycling and reuse of raw materials.

Sustainability of resources

Landes carries out its activities complying with all legal requirements regarding to the sustainability of hydro biological resources. Our production lines are supplied only with raw materials of legal origin, with strict control over traceability.

Quality of our
products and food safety

Our team’s mission is to provide our consumers with fresh, healthy and high nutritional value products. In all our processing plants, the product development maintains its quality certifications, laying the basis for good manufacturing practices. We control processes and test the final products in our own laboratories to ensure maximum quality, meeting the specifications of our customers.

Certifications

We have certified our fisheries in order to meet our customers’ requirements with the following programs: HACCP Standard, IFFO RS Standard, BRC Global Standard for Food Safety Certification and IFS Standard.

Our products

We catch and process Jack mackerel, mackerel, giant squid, hake and sardines mainly for direct human consumption and also for animal nutrition (Fish meal, Fish oil and BioCP ®).

Main activities 2018

-Captures and purchase of raw material: 91.000 tons.
-Production of animal consumption proteins: 16.200 tons.
-Production of frozen fish: 30.900 tons.
-Production of frozen mussels: 1.200 tons.

Our company exports the 72% of its production to markets in Asia, Europe, North America, South America and Africa.

We are a local company that catch and process high quality marine proteins, innovating every day in all our activities to add value.

Corporate strategy

Landes strategy is based on processing marine species of its own and also from artisanal supply, promoting a close relationship with its communities and encouraging values among their employees and suppliers. The main risk the company faces is the legal uncertainty which complicates future decisions and investments.

Towards a sustainable strategy

We will continue to develop the sustainability of the business in the long term,anchored in risk management to guarantee today and in the future products of the highest quality and with minimal impact on the environment.

Ethical Behavior and Crime Prevention

For Landes, excellence in management includes the honest, responsible and loyal behavior of each employee, which brings on trustful relationships. During 2018 there were no sanctions for cases of corruption or unfair competition.

Corporate governance

Property

Landes is a non-listed corporation, whose directors have a close relationship with the company. The board of directors is elected by the general meeting of shareholders. Being a family-owned business, the interests of the two families are represented proportionally and there are no disagreements.

Corporate Structure

The designation and selection of the highest governance body and its committees lies in the shareholders of the company, who choose their members in a discretionary manner, according to their technical knowledge and experience in economic, environmental and social topics.

The highest corporate governance body in the company is the
Board of Directors, with broad and absolute decision-making powers.

Board of directors

It is composed by 5 members with a term in office of 3 years. At the end of the period, the Landes Directory must be completely renewed or re-elected.

Compensation of the Board of Directors and Senior Executives

The payment of fees to the board of directors is defined in the bylaws of the organization and consists of a fixed monthly compensation that is not dependent on the financial results of the company.

Committees

Landes has two committees (the directive and the strategic one) that aim to strengthen good corporate governance practices.

Regulations and Environment

Landes promotes environmental sustainability in all its areas. The company has a Management System that covers the generation of waste, energy consumption, water consumption and emissions, committing to a decrease per ton of product per year.

Emissions

Landes declares all the emissions from fixed sources (boilers). In addition, we are pioneers in environmental management and odor mitigation since 2016, when we installed a modern system that minimizes the emission of annoying odors by more than 90%.

Efluents and waste management

The company correctly manages all liquid industrial waste management in a rile treatment plant that has Environmental Qualification Resolution.

Waste management Plan and Recycling Promotion

We manage and implement hazardous and non-hazardous waste management plans both in the fleet and on the high seas. In the plants, we promote the reduction of waste and its subsequent reuse. During 2018 no spill of any nature was reported.

Innovation

Innovation is a Material topic for Landes, which has constantly
been researching and creating solutions to meet the requirements of both
customers and the company. A path that has allowed the company to generate
added value to its products and to optimizing processes.

Innovation Comittee

Since 2018 a committee seeks and promotes new technologies, products and/or processes that insert value to «non-traditional» markets, through internal projects, with external financing.

Development of heavy metal removal technology for Giant Squid hydrolyzed protein

From the discards of Giant Squid we produce a protein hydrolyzed. However, this mollusk accumulates heavy metals in its tissues and digestive gland, which we have managed to remove through scale tests and experimental and pilot designs.

Obtaining high purity collagen from Giant Squid

Giant squid has high degrees of concentration of collagen, a protein that provides resistance and flexibility to the tissues of the human body. Corfo (Chilean Development Corporation) and Pasteur Laboratory are strategic partners in this project that seeks to develop a nutritional supplement with a pharmaceutical standard.

People and suppliers

People of the sea

The well-being of our employees is a priority managed through different initiatives that seek to develop talents aligned with the values ​​and mission of the company. We conduct Climate and Culture surveys. According to the latest measurement, 96% of our employees rated the company as a good place to work.

Distribution of Employees by Gender

We seek to promote equity. In 2017 there were only 9% of women hired, a figure that rose to 27% in 2018.

Employability

We clarify our numbers of employees according to type of contract and turnover of staff with an indefinite contract.

Health and security

Landes promotes health and safety at work through a management system that allows continuous improvement for both our own staff and our contractor companies, reinforcing self-care and mutual care through constant training. The «Prevention Week» held in 2018 included the participation of employees, suppliers and families.

Trade Union Force

More than 93% of Landes employees are unionised. All collective negotiations have been smooth and there has never been a strike in the history of the company. Landes has seven unions that maintain cordial relations with the company.

Collective agreements

Landes employees have a number of benefits, many of which are described in the collective agreements signed with the unions. In addition, they receive annual bonuses, and also bonuses for national holidays and end of the year. In regard to compensation, Landes encourages retirement for those who have been in the company for more than 5 years.

Communications

In Landes, internal communications play a key role in achieving the company’s objectives: release institutional information, promoting cultural values, and listen to the opinions of employees.

Suppliers

The association with artisanal suppliers is key to the operation of Landes, which each year buys 60% of the raw materials it processes from local artisanal fishermen. A relationship that has been materialized in interesting projects, such as the joint construction of 5 craft boats.

Community

We understand that our operations have an impact in communities, so we participate in their development. We are well known for our good social practices, openness to dialogue and close relations with our neighbors.

Sales room

All Landes products are available at convenient prices in the sales room next to the Talcahuano plant and soon in Chiloé.

Eco site

Landes encourages the recycling of the community with the installation of an ecological site next to the sales room, where everyone can dispose their items.

Bureo Foundation Agreement

In 2016 we signed a cooperation agreement to recycle disused fishing nets to turn them into skateboards, sunglasses and trash containers. The raised funds are destined to community programs.

Clean Production Agreement (APL)

Landes Mussels signed this agreement led by AMICHILE that aims to implement production processes that generate lower impacts, energy and water efficiency, solid waste management in addition to the search for recycling alternatives.

Meetings with neighbors

Every year, before the production season starts, we invite our neighbors to our plants to talk about their concerns and requirements. With that information, we develop the community contribution. These meetings are part of the company’s Open Door Policy.

Committed to Inclusion

The new law that encourages the inclusion of people with different abilities establishes as an obligation the reserve of jobs of 1%. In Landes we set out to raise this standard to 3%, as a sign of our commitment to inclusion.

A group of Landes employees’ repaired Alonkura School, a special center for young disabled, during working hours.

MAIN EVENTS LANDES 2018

JANUARY

Landes signed a cooperation agreement with the Alonkura Labor Center

The agreement includes internships for young disabled, which includes internships and professional practices of its students and also corporate volunteering of Landes employees’ in their establishment. During 2018, two of the eight interns became part of the company’s stable team.

FEBRUARY

Classes and workshops in Landes

In every territory where we have operations we work with our communities participating in their development. During 2018,we held cooking lessons for neighbors and social leadersin our plant located in Talcahuano. Chef Isabel Escalona taught a centenary of assistants to make daily preparations and also to make canned food at home, among other things.

MARCH

Encouraging sports

One of our community priorities is to support sports. In 2018, we sponsored the 6th family cycle organized by the «Talcahuano Road Cycling Club». A free activity that gathered the whole community and more than 400 participants, who at the end of the day enjoyed a smoked horse mackerel noodle served by Landes’ executives.

APRIL

Landes engaged with the beach cleaning in Chiloé

Since we started our operations in the Chiloé island we have been compromised with the community. One of the initiatives we have been part of is the monthly beach clean-up organized by the Chilean navy and AmiChile, association of which Landes is an active member.

MAY

Landes opens its doors to the Community

In may we celebrate the “Month of the Sea” and this year we invited the families of our migrant employees to a special tour in our processing plant, in Talcahuano. We also had the presence of students of the Catholic University of the Holy Conception (UCSC) -institution that has a cooperation agreement with Landes- and of the regional director of fisheries of the Biobío Region, Óscar Henríquez.

JUNE

Landes’s goddaughter

Driven by the National Plan for Children, the initiative «A child our commitment», seeks that different companies sponsor the education of children and youth from vulnerable sectors. Karina Castillo, the «god daughter» of Landesfor 12 years actually studies Civil Engineering at the University of BioBío.

JULY

First health exhibition of Landes

The health and well-being of our employees are a priority of Landes, so during 2018 we carried out different free medical initiatives. One of them was the «First Health Fair», where members of our team and their families made their consultations in different medical and dental services. We had the presence of a a nurse, medical technologists and dentists.

AUGUST

Celebrating our neighborhood leaders

The company invited a group of 20 neighbors and community leaders to a canning workshop with seafood to celebrate the “Unions leader day”.

SEPTEMBER

Chorifest in Chiloé

Organized by the Regional Strategic Program (PER) for the Development of the Mitiliculture Industry of Corfo Los Lagos, AmiChile and Junaeb, Landes participated in the “Chorifest” in Chiloé. The purpose of this initiative was to spread the nutritional value of mussels in the educational community through different events in schools and fairs.

OCTOBER

Landes supports basketball in Talcahuano and Chiloé

Landes has sponsored for two years the Disabled Talcahuano (Dital) Basketball Team, who played the National Championship. The sponsorship included 15 sports equipments. In addition, in Chiloé, Landes supported the female branch of the Castro sports club with uniforms.

NOVEMBER

«Enseña Chile» organized workshop in Landes

One of Landes’ commitments is to support education. In 2018, the company donated $ 5 million to Enseña Chile Foundation. We had the visit of its director, Tomás Recart, who lead a workshop to more than 100 employees of the company, in Talcahuano, about how organizations learn.

DECEMBER

Landes received an important award from the Municipality of Talcahuano

Landes received an important award from the Municipality of Talcahuano for its contribution to the development of the commune in 2018. The distinction is due to different initiatives such as the inclusion of young people with different abilities from the Alonkura center and the sponsorship program for vulnerable students «A child our commitment».
